Getting paid as a hairdresser

  • Chair renters often invoice the salon owner for commission or invoice clients directly: be clear which one this is.
  • For weddings, take a deposit when booking and invoice the balance after the trial.
  • Clients are used to paying on the spot; a payment link replaces a card machine.

Every UK invoice also needs a unique number, the date, your name and address, your client's details, what you supplied and the amount due. More on what an invoice must show.

Do I need to give clients an invoice?

Not for every cut, but wedding parties, corporate shoots and salons you work for will want one, and it keeps your own records straight.

How do I invoice a salon for chair rental work?

If the salon pays you a share of takings, invoice them monthly for your share with the dates covered.
