Getting paid as a electrician

  • List certificates (EIC, EICR, minor works) on the invoice; landlords and buyers need them.
  • Separate materials from labour, especially if a contractor will make CIS deductions.
  • For larger rewires, invoice in stages: first fix, second fix, completion.

Every UK invoice also needs a unique number, the date, your name and address, your client's details, what you supplied and the amount due. More on what an invoice must show.

How do I invoice a landlord safety check (EICR)?

One fixed-price line for the inspection and report, plus separate lines for any remedial work the landlord approves.

What is the domestic reverse charge?

When you're VAT registered and work under CIS for another VAT-registered contractor, you don't charge VAT: the contractor accounts for it. Your invoice must say the reverse charge applies.
