Getting paid as a mechanic

  • Always include the registration and mileage; it's the record customers keep with the car's history.
  • Labour in hours at your rate, then each part on its own line.
  • Mobile mechanics: get paid before you leave with a card payment link.

Every UK invoice also needs a unique number, the date, your name and address, your client's details, what you supplied and the amount due. More on what an invoice must show.

Should payment be due immediately?

For one-off customers, yes: payment on collection is normal. Trade accounts can have 14 or 30 days.

How do I show parts I bought with VAT if I'm not registered?

Charge the price you set for the part with no VAT line. You can't show or reclaim VAT until you're registered.

Is this mechanic invoice template free?

Yes, with no sign-up. Fill it in, download the PDF and send it. Nothing you type is uploaded.
