Getting paid as a interior designer

  • Separate your design fee from furniture you buy for the client, so they see both clearly.
  • Ask for payment before ordering procurement items: suppliers want paying up front.
  • Note any trade discount or handling fee you're charging on procurement.

Every UK invoice also needs a unique number, the date, your name and address, your client's details, what you supplied and the amount due. More on what an invoice must show.

How do I charge for procurement?

Either pass on items at retail and keep the trade discount, or charge cost plus a handling percentage. Say which on the invoice.

Should design fees be staged?

Yes: a deposit to start, then concept and final design stages. It keeps big projects paid as you go.

Is this interior designer invoice template free?

Yes, with no sign-up. Fill it in, download the PDF and send it. Nothing you type is uploaded.
