Your first customers deserve better than a Word invoice.
Before there's a finance team, someone on the founding team sends the invoices. Fenquist keeps that quick and tidy: pilots, first contracts and the odd sponsorship, paid by card or bank, with the numbers ready when an investor or accountant asks.
What gets in the way, and what helps
Pilot customers want to pay by card, today.
Every invoice has a pay link with card, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Pay by Bank, paid straight into your Stripe account.
Three founders, one set of books, nobody sure who sent what.
Invite co-founders with their own logins and roles; every change is in the activity log.
Due diligence asks for revenue by month and customer.
Ask Fenquist answers that from your records, and the year-end pack exports everything as spreadsheets.

Money basics before your first round
- Use contracts that state payment terms, and put the same terms on the invoice.
- Keep founder spending on the company card or account so expenses are easy to evidence.
- Track recurring revenue separately from one-off pilots: investors read them differently.
- Keep receipts for R&D-related costs; your accountant may be able to claim relief on them.
General information, correct as of October 2026, not tax or legal advice. Check GOV.UK or an accountant for your own situation.
Fenquist isn't a full general ledger: no balance sheet, cap table or payroll. Most startups pair it with an accountant until they hire a finance lead.
Questions
Can we invoice customers in Europe?
Yes, in euros or pounds. Totals are kept per currency so pounds and euros are never added together.
What happens to our data if we move to Xero or QuickBooks later?
Download everything as spreadsheets, plus PDFs of every invoice, at any time from Settings.
